Frequently asked questions
Getting started
Do you offer a free consultation?
Yes. Every new client starts with a free, no-obligation consultation. We talk through what you want to achieve, what you have tried before, any injuries or health considerations, and how training could fit around your life.
You are not signing up to anything by having it, and there is no sales pitch at the end.
How do I get started?
Book the free consultation, or call or text Dan on 07931 496 205. If you would rather write than talk, the contact form comes straight to him.
Before your first session you fill in a short health questionnaire and consent form - about five minutes online, or on paper with Dan if you prefer.
Do I need to be fit to start?
No. You do not need to be fit, experienced, or confident in a gym to begin. Plenty of Dan’s clients start having done nothing for years.
Every session is built around what you can do now, not what someone else can do.
I am nervous about training in front of people. Is that normal?
Very. It is the single most common thing people say before they start.
Private sessions are one-to-one in Dan’s own gym - no audience, no queue for equipment. Several reviews on this site are from people who mention exactly this, and that it stopped being an issue quickly.
What should I bring to my first session?
Comfortable training clothes, trainers and a water bottle. That is genuinely it - everything else is provided.
Pricing
How much does a personal trainer cost in Wellingborough?
Private one-to-one training with Dan is £50 per hour, or £350 for eight sessions across four weeks - which works out cheaper per session and suits people training twice a week.
Group training for two is £60 per hour (£30 each). Outdoor classes are £30 per person for groups of four or more. Online coaching is £150 a month. Dedicated Training, the premium in-home service, starts at £600 a month and is priced on your requirements.
Your first consultation is free, with no obligation to book anything afterwards.
How much is group training?
Group training is £60 per hour for up to two people - so £30 each if you split it. You both get coaching adapted to your own ability and goals; it is not a watered-down session.
Outdoor classes are different: groups of four or more, at £30 per person.
Do I have to pay for a block up front?
No. You can pay session by session at £50 an hour if you prefer. The eight-session block at £350 exists because most people training regularly end up better off on it, not because it is required.
There is no joining fee, no contract and no minimum term on one-to-one training.
Training
How often should I train?
Most private clients train once or twice a week with Dan and do something on their own in between. Some train three times a week when pushing for a specific goal.
Consistency matters more than frequency - two sessions a week you actually keep beats four you cancel.
How long before I see results?
Most one-to-one clients notice measurable change within the first four weeks - usually strength and energy before anything visible.
After that it depends on your goal, your starting point, and what happens in the other 165 hours of your week. Dan will give you a realistic timeline rather than promise a transformation.
Do you help with nutrition as well as training?
Yes. Dan holds a nutrition coaching qualification (2020) and builds practical guidance around how you actually eat, rather than handing over a meal plan you will abandon in a fortnight.
Nutrition guidance is included as standard in Dedicated Training and online coaching, and forms part of the conversation in one-to-one sessions.
I have an injury or a health condition. Can I still train?
In most cases yes, and training is often part of the answer. Before your first session you complete a standard health screening questionnaire (the PAR-Q), and if anything on it needs a doctor’s opinion first, Dan will tell you rather than work around it.
Dan is not a physiotherapist and will not pretend to be - where something needs clinical treatment he will say so and work alongside it.
General
When can I train?
Dan trains clients Monday to Thursday from 9am to 9pm, and Friday mornings from 9am to 2pm.
Dedicated Training clients are fitted around their own schedule, which is much of the point of that service.
Where is the gym?
Private sessions are held in Dan’s own fully equipped gym at his home address in Wellingborough. It is private, there is no queue for equipment, and you will not be sharing the space with anyone else - which is exactly why people who dislike commercial gyms get on with it.
There are plans for a dedicated space in the future, so watch this space.
Outdoor classes run locally, and Dedicated Training comes to you.
Do you offer personal training at home?
Yes - that is Dedicated Training. Dan comes to you at a time that fits your schedule and manages the whole thing: sessions, programme and nutrition.
It starts at £600 a month and is priced on what you need. It suits people whose diary is the real obstacle rather than their motivation.
What areas do you cover?
Wellingborough primarily, with clients travelling in from Northampton, Kettering, Rushden and across Northamptonshire.
For in-home Dedicated Training, distance forms part of the conversation when the service is priced.
Do you offer online coaching?
Yes. Online coaching is £150 a month: Dan builds your programme, checks in weekly, and runs coaching calls over Zoom.
It suits people who cannot get to Wellingborough regularly, travel a lot, or already train somewhere they are happy with and want the structure rather than the supervision.
Is a personal trainer worth it compared with a gym membership?
A gym membership gives you equipment. A trainer gives you a plan built for you, someone correcting your technique before it causes a problem, and an appointment you are far less likely to skip.
If you already train consistently and know what you are doing, a membership may be all you need. If you have joined a gym before and stopped going, that is exactly the gap this fills.
What qualifications does Dan have?
Dan is a qualified personal trainer with nine years’ experience and over 250 clients trained. His qualifications are gym-based bodily conditioning (2017), MRCT (2018), spin instruction (2019) and nutrition coaching (2020).
He is fully insured and holds a 5.0 rating on Google from more than 100 reviews.
What happens if I need to cancel a session?
Life happens - let Dan know as early as you can and he will move it. Repeatedly cancelling at short notice is the only thing that causes a problem, and the terms you agree at sign-up set out where the line sits.
The quickest way to rearrange is a text or WhatsApp to 07931 496 205.
